Port Fourchon: America’s Premier Energy Gateway Port Fourchon is more than a port—it’s a dynamic hub at the heart of the Gulf of America’s energy corridor. Unlike traditional cargo ports, Fourchon is composed of specialized docks and service facilities, each individually leased and operated to serve offshore energy support companies. This unique structure makes it the nation’s premier land base for offshore energy. But Port Fourchon’s importance extends far beyond industry. It is also a center for commercial and recreational fishing, an intermodal transportation hub, and a destination for recreation, ecotourism, and coastal research. As a testing ground for coastal restoration and marsh creation methods, Fourchon showcases how industry and environment can coexist successfully. Strategically located at the mouth of Bayou Lafourche—where it meets the Gulf of America —Port Fourchon offers direct, uncongested access to the Gulf and Caribbean. Connected to Louisiana’s Highway 1, the port sits in the middle of one of the most dynamic and resource-rich industrial regions in North America. Under the leadership of the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, Fourchon continues to expand to meet the needs of business and industry. With its logistical advantages, available land, and visionary leadership, the port is positioned to remain the leading hub for offshore energy activity. Today, Port Fourchon stands as a model of public and private investment working in harmony, supporting not only traditional and renewable energy projects, but also seafood, shipping, tourism, and recreation. Its versatility and forward-looking development make it a critical anchor for both Louisiana’s economy and America’s energy future.
